Dog Friendly Vacations Maryland – Sometimes you just have to get out of town, even if it’s just for a night! Jack and I were very busy with work, so we decided to go on the town for a night in Baltimore, Maryland. So early Saturday morning we packed our bags and headed north. The drive from Arlington to Baltimore is surprisingly short, especially on a weekend. We managed to reach our destination within an hour.
Before we started planning our trip, we consulted with Charm City experts, @ipartywithbrucewayne and @IbelieveinHD. They recommended some great dog friendly activities, but due to time and weather we couldn’t check them all out. I guess that means we have to go back!

Ah, the real reason this weekend trip happened. We love exhibitions! This year our schedule only allowed us to attend the World of Pets Expo in Maryland. The Expo was held 15 minutes north of Baltimore at the Maryland State Fairgrounds.

Meanwhile, Marine visited her good friend @mayathedox at her @sassywoof booth. Navy went a little crazy with her dad’s credit card and bought two adorable sassy dresses. Our best find at the show is this super cool sticky note to collect sailor fluff. We’ve seen ads for similar tools, but we’ve never seen one work in real life. I will tell you that they are working and we are officially engaged
Jack, Marine and I watched the Doc Dogs competitions for a long time. Hmmm, you think Navy Doc was a dog?
Our hotel was a few blocks from the Inner Harbor, so we were able to walk around the sunset to capture some Navy Instagram content and capture all the sights. We are inundated with amazing restaurants with seasonal terraces. I can only imagine how popular these places will be when the weather is nice! Lucky for us, the Starbucks on the Inner Harbor patio was open, so we took our coffees outside and sat with the Navy.
We also couldn’t stop at one of the many shops around the inner harbor. Lululemon in Harbor East is very dog friendly. They also have a treat and a water bowl for the kids. All the academics gave a lot of love and kindness to the Navy.

We like to take the Marine Lobby with us to enjoy the Kimpton Cocktail Hour. After a long day of exploring, enjoy a glass of wine and a small snack with the navy where you felt very relaxed. Kimpton Monaco also let Marine sit with us while we enjoyed their complimentary coffee and tea bar in the morning.
Pet Package In Baltimore, Maryland
We’ve picked the best random weekend to visit Baltimore. Some restaurants participating in Baltimore Winter Restaurant Week have extended their specials over the weekend. Jack and I have attended restaurant weeks in other cities, but Baltimore has by far the best deals. We opted for dinner at Sullivan’s Steakhouse, which has a seasonal dog-friendly patio. Apparently the patio was closed for the winter so Marine was fast asleep as we ate and finished the rest of her steak dinner.
I absolutely love when hotels have amazing restaurants on site. Luckily for us, B&O Restaurant calls the Kimpton Monaco Hotel home. After Saturday’s event, we decided to stay on campus and visit the B&O restaurant. We don’t want to leave the Navy alone in the room, but if we’re just a few floors down, we feel pretty good.
The menu looked absolutely amazing and I was desperate to try everything but settled for eggs and fries, Zach tried the Chesapeake Omelet and the table split old fashioned donuts.
Even though it was a quick trip, I still felt like our weekend was full of amazing experiences. If we return to Baltimore, we definitely plan to return when the weather is a little warmer so we can truly experience the magical city. Assateague Island is a great choice for a relaxing, dog-friendly East Coast beach vacation. With miles and miles of beach, great hiking trails, paved bike paths, and launching areas for canoes and kayaks, this is a place to truly enjoy nature!
Assateague Island is located about 150 miles east of Washington, DC and is divided by the Maryland-Virginia state line. The southern third of Virginia Island is home to Assateague Lighthouse and Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. However, pets are prohibited on the Virginia side of the island – even if they are in your vehicle.
Luckily, you have plenty to do on the island of Maryland! It is home to most of the Assateague Island National Seashore and Assateague State Park—Maryland’s only seaside park. And in an interesting twist, the National Seashore is actually more pet-friendly than a state park!
There is no road on the island. And traveling from the North Access in Ocean City, Maryland to the South Access in Chincoteague, Virginia requires a 50-mile overland drive. So if you are traveling with pets, it is important to plan your accommodation accordingly.

As we mentioned earlier, pets are prohibited in the entire Assateague Island, Virginia area, including your car.
The northern two-thirds of the island is located in Maryland and is divided between the National Seashore and Assateague State Park. Each of these parks sets its own pet policy.
Pets are welcome year-round on most of Maryland’s Assateague Island National Seashore, as long as they stay above 6 feet at all times. It has many beaches, in the water on these beaches, many campsites and a harbor where you can embark on boats. Pets are not allowed on the National Seashore at the following locations:
Leashed pets are allowed year-round at the marina and on the Rockliff Trail on land. During the camping season (last week of April – November 1), pets are welcome in the G, H and I camping loops and the beaches (and water) adjacent to these loops, as well as the westbound hiking/biking trail. . When the campsite is closed (November 1st – third week of April), pets on a lead are allowed on all campsite circuits and adjacent beaches, even in the water.

Assateague Island’s north entrance is accessible from Berlin or Ocean City, Maryland. The Verrazano Bridge crosses from the mainland to the island and takes you to Assateague State Park.
Please note that the state park allows dogs on the beaches adjacent to campgrounds G, H, and I from the last week of April until November 1st. Further south, the dog-friendly beach stretches for miles at Assateague Island National Seashore. Pets are welcome here, except at the lifeguard beach directly across from Bayside Drive-In Campground.
As you move away from the parking lots, the beach is wider, flatter and less populated. We saw people fishing, sleeping, cooking and warming themselves by the fire after surfing.
For even more privacy, you can get a permit to drive your vehicle right on the beach! Over Sand Vehicle (OSV) permits cost $110, are valid for one year, and are available online at www.recreation.gov. The permit must be picked up within 10 days of the purchase date and will allow you to cross onto the sand after the paved road ends at South Ocean Beach!
