Because of its location in California’s High Desert, it’s best to plan a trip to Joshua Tree during the cooler months.

Your dog will experience a very pleasant ride between December and March. Temperatures will be in the mid 60s during the day with sunny skies. You will be able to make full use of the daylight hours and not be restricted from morning or afternoon travel.

With temperatures averaging 99 degrees in July, I would avoid going on summer vacations with pets. Although possible, it is difficult for dogs to stay cool in the heat.

Keeping your dog on a leash while at the park is an important safety measure. While native plants and animals are beautiful and should be respected, they can be dangerous to your dog.

I strongly recommend carrying a dog first aid kit and keeping your dog out of the way as much as possible. Coyotes, rattlesnakes, and scorpions all call Joshua Tree home.
