They provide food and water bowls, a puppy food kit, and even offer a long outdoor leash that you can take your dog off but still let him move around.

If you’re looking for something a little more connected to nature, 13 Acres Retreat might be the perfect place for you! I discovered this hidden gem last year when my husband and I were looking for a weekend getaway for our 2 year anniversary. These charming cabins are located on 13 acres of wilderness, outside of Dripping Springs, just an hour and a half from San Antonio.
Each cabin has an air conditioner/heater, a small coffee pot, a comfortable bed with fresh linens, and a breathtaking view of the Texas Hill Country. There are two mixed toilets on site, but don’t let that put you off! These are beautifully decorated and kept immaculately clean! Other amenities include a water cooler to fill the reusable bottle, a sink with soap for washing dishes and hands, and a shower with hot water. However, it’s the outdoor shower that’s really cute, but can be a little chilly if you’re visiting in the colder months.
Pet Friendly Weekend Getaways In Texas Perfect For Fall
There is nothing to do when you stay at 13 Acres Retreat. You can walk the grounds (note: there are no trails, so it’s an adventure!) or hop in the car and check out some nearby state parks, like Pedernales Falls. If hiking isn’t your thing (or your dog’s thing), you can also check out dog-friendly wineries/breweries within 20-30 minutes of your location. My personal favorite is Hawk’s Shadow Winery.
If you’ve never visited Lost Maples in the fall, you’re missing out. Located just under 2 hours from San Antonio, Lost Maples State Natural Area is known for being one of the few places in Texas where you can see amazing fall foliage. You have to do this right, because the leaves don’t start to change until the temperature drops (usually mid-October or early November). The weather in Texas is always amazing, but you can check out the park’s Fall Foliar Color Report here.
As the leaves begin to change color, Lost Maples becomes a lively place! It is strongly recommended to reserve the campsite in advance; sometimes up to a year in advance! Due to COVID, access is even more limited and you must reserve passes (both camping and day passes) in advance online or by contacting the customer service center.
I promise you, it’s worth the effort! Not only is Lost Maples a beautiful piece of nature year-round, but there are more than 10 miles of trails to explore, including a loop that takes you to the top of a 2,200-foot cliff. There are 30 campsites
