Our new man, Ole, has been on many adventures with us and as long as he behaves well, there are many companies that will welcome him! From lakes and parks to breweries, shopping centers and Airbnbs, there are plenty of places where dogs are not only allowed, but welcomed with open arms. Although my tour focused heavily on the Twin Cities and surrounding areas, you’ll know that it’s common for breweries to allow dogs, and you can find a park or lake in almost every corner of Minnesota. When going to any of these restaurants, hotels or bakeries, call ahead and make sure you understand their rules and current guidelines. Go north (west) and introduce your friend to Paul. Bunyan, that is. The iconic big man and his Bemidji friend Boberside. Once you’ve chosen your love spot (we recommend the Candlewood Suites), you can release your pup at Nymore Dog Park and then drop him off for an adventurous hike (and delicious ice cream!) at Itasca State Park. Do you have stamina? Join Minnesota’s longest state trail, the Paul Bunyan State Trail, heading north at Lake Bemidji State Park and hit the trail!

Duluth is your premier vacation destination in MN North Shore and it’s also one of the most dog-friendly. For beautiful scenery (especially for a weekend getaway!), spend some time on the Minnesota River Valley Scenic Byway ending at the Minnesota Valley State Recreation Area. We highly recommend stopping at the dog-friendly Rockwood Eatery after your 6.5-mile Trezona Trail hike with Fido. If a secluded retreat is your dog’s favorite, look no further. This small dry cabin in southeastern Minnesota sits on a 20-acre masterpiece of Mother Nature. The panoramic views are incredible! Let Fido know he can’t work from home (no TV, phone or internet).
If the pup is craving luxury, avoid the crowds and book this wooded wonderland retreat with a hot tub, private dock and relaxing sauna.
