More info on browser support In this post, I wanted to look at the most dog-friendly destinations in the West ~ focusing on California and Oregon, two states where you can easily travel with pets (I know because I travel here. ALL THE TIME ) ! In these states I wanted to find places that go above and beyond when it comes to being dog friendly; importance, abundant dog parks or dog-friendly beaches, great pet-friendly hotels, and laid-back city vibes that facilitate your behavior. battle in adventure. And I’ve found some great places like Bend, Oregon and Carmel, California…among many others. Join me and my dog Dylan as we search for the “Best Dog Friendly Places on the West Coast”.
Although my only dog friendly beach in Oregon is Cannon Beach, keep in mind; Almost all Oregon beaches are dog-friendly, with far fewer rules and restrictions than California beaches. Translation: The Oregon Coast is an ideal area for dog-friendly road trips. Image of Gold Beach, Oregon.
I love Cannon Beach for so many reasons: the charming town, the dozens of great restaurants, the COFFEE (Sleeping Monk!!), the many exclusive, pet-friendly hotels, and of course, the beach, which is 100% alive! – friendly. friendly No chains required here!! Oregon is much more relaxed than California in this regard. And the view from Haystack Rock will leave you mesmerized, especially at sunset. Tailgating down Ocean Avenue, grab a cup of soup on one of the many outdoor patios, and be sure to stop by the adorable pet store around the corner, Puppy Love by the Sea.
The Complete Dog Friendly Edinburgh Guide
***My picks for the best pet friendly hotels in Cannon Beach: Both are high end oceanfront hotels and are very pet friendly. The Ocean Lodge rooms are bigger and take better advantage of the view, but Surfsand is closer to town and Haystack Rock, the rooms are more comfortable, and their Wayfarer restaurant is my favorite place in town (and offers room service).
Bend is my current home in the US, and honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever lived in a more animal-friendly place. The sheer number of amazing dog parks in Bend puts California’s dog parks to shame, and nearly every restaurant in town with a patio is dog-friendly, including McMenamin’s St. Francis School (which is a pub, brewery, cinema, concert venue, cigar bar and hotel all turned into one former Catholic school), Naked Winery, Avid Cider, Crux Brewing, 10 Barrel…..and the list goes on… and on.
Bend has several dog parks, hotels and restaurants per per capita than any other city on this list. Dylan is pictured here on the popular Deschutes River Trail in downtown Bend.
***My picks for the best pet friendly hotel(s) in Bend: Tetherow Golf Resort. At Tetherow, you have luxury golf resorts with stunning mountain views, and you’re only a 5-minute drive from downtown Bend and the popular Old Mill District. This is the best place for pets in town. Alternatively, head to Sunriver Resort, about 20 minutes south of Bend. One of the best family resorts in the US.
Dog Friendly Days Out
Carmel Main Beach is my favorite dog friendly beach in the world. the legendary Pebble Beach is to the right, and if you follow the crescent-shaped beach to the left, you’ll see cypress trees framing your view. with all kinds of multi-million dollar homes…from cute cottage style to wild and modern. Clint Eastwood lives here for a reason. there’s just something special about Carmel.
And this city loves dogs. they are welcome almost everywhere, but I especially like the cozy outdoor terrace at Forge on Forest, which has a special dog-friendly menu…
Carmel isn’t the only place on Monterey Bay with a great ocean view; go to the Pacific Ocean and walk along the coast to see such a view …
*** My best dog friendly hotel in Carmel. at The Lodge at Pebble Beach. Yes it is expensive but according to my parents and convenient call. every room here is pet friendly. And you can bring a dog of any size. For a cheaper option in Carmel, try Doris Day’s Cypress Inn for Puppies.
Two Most Scenic Dog Friendly Road Trips In Northern California
I grew up in Orange County, and last week I met up with some friends at Huntington Beach, the new outdoor mall in Pacific City. When I drove home for Christmas I had Dylan with me which meant I had to take him to the mall… and boy was I shocked at how pet friendly it was. Chic shops invited us in, she had coffee with us and we all had lunch on Simzi’s terrace overlooking the pier and the sea. I would go back in a heartbeat. And there’s one more reason to visit Huntington with your dog. this is the ONLY beach in Orange Country where dogs are allowed on a leash.
***My top pick for hotel dogs in Huntington Beach: Kimpton Shorebreak Huntington Beach. Kimptons are super stylish and always dog friendly…they even offer happy hours! This one in particular is also romantic, with ocean views accompanied by a pale blue color palette, and you’re just a block from the pier, Main Street and the ocean. And Huntington Dog Beach is just a few miles north…
San Diego has not one, but two dog beaches, and they’re both in rugged areas: Del Mar and Coronado. Dylan and I tested the Del Mar dog beach just south of Encinitas last year. Although it is not as big as Carmel Beach, it is still amazing. Happy dogs ran in and out of the water, people were relaxed and friendly and parking was easy as it was on the same street as the beach entrance. Featuring pristine white sand, Coronado Dog Beach is steps away from the historic and pet-friendly Hotel Del Coronado.
Coronado Dog Beach is one of the best places to play with your dog in the sand in Southern California.
Best Dog Friendly Beaches
***My Top Dog Friendly San Diego Hotel Picks: San Diego is huge, so it depends on where you want to be. For the northern region, try L’Auberge Del Mar, which accepts two dogs of any size. If you’re in the center of the Gaslamp, try the modern Hotel Indigo with its rooftop bar. And if you want to be near the legendary Coronado Dog Beach, head to the Hotel del Coronado ~ where its three restaurants are pet-friendly. (Only dogs up to 40kg in Delhi…)
That concludes my picks for the best dog-friendly destinations on the West Coast. One thing I want to add. Recently, more and more travel articles I read seem to be written by A.I. or from out-of-touch editors who haven’t actually been to the places they recommend. Be sure. all places on this list I have visited in the past year, so my recommendations are timely and for 2020 and beyond.
I’ve traveled between California and Oregon every year since 2010 with Dylan, so all of these places are places I actually visit and look forward to returning to every year. Home » Best Pet Friendly Cities on the West Coast Best Pet Friendly Cities on the West Coast
