Best Dog Friendly Resorts Texas

Best Dog Friendly Resorts Texas – Fall is the best time of year for a Texas wildlife weekend getaway. The weather is finally getting colder, but not so cold that you need to pack away your winter gear. Daytime walks are not only tolerable, but fun, safe for you and your dog. At night, the temperature drops enough to create a cozy fire under the stars where you can make s’mores or play with your dog under a blanket.

Fortunately for San Antonio, there are many great places to visit within easy driving distance. Whether you’re looking for full-on camping, a cozy cabin, or something in between, there’s something for everyone. If quarantine and the warmer months have you feeling relaxed and calm, it’s time to pack your bags, get in the car, and head to one of these three favorite Texas wildlife trails.

Frequently Asked Questions About The Woodlands Resort

If you spend a lot of time on Instagram, you’ve probably seen these beautiful bars built in remote parts of the United States. There are three bases in Texas, and they’re all within easy reach of San Antonio: one outside Dallas (4.5 hours from SA), one outside Houston (3 hours from SA), and Austin/San Antonio (in Wimberley, actually, like (only) 1 hours)!

Despite being in the middle of nowhere, each cabin has a comfortable and stylish double bed, a bathroom with bath and shower and a kitchenette with cooking facilities. Best of all, Getaway is super friendly, charging just $40 to cover extra costs! They provide food and water, dog supplies, and a long run outside where you can take your dog but give him time to roam.

According to its founders, Gateway was created to “allow people time, space and plug in. Our eco-friendly cabins offer a break from the city, technology and work, so you can recharge and reconnect with someone important to you.”

If you want to “get away” without fighting, this is the perfect weekend for you and your dog!

If you are looking for something close to nature, the 13 Acre Retreat may be the place for you! I first discovered this hidden gem last summer when I was looking for a weekend getaway for my husband and two years of marriage. Set on 13 acres of wilderness, this beautiful lodge is outside of Dripping Springs, an hour and a half from San Antonio.

Each cabin has a refrigerator/heater, small pot of coffee, a comfortable bed with fresh linens and beautiful views of the Texas Hill Country. There are two shared bathrooms on site, but don’t let that put you off! They are well decorated and clean! Other amenities include a water cooler for refilling reusable bottles, a sink with dish soap and hot showers. However, it is an outdoor shower, which is great, but it can get a little chilly when we get into the colder months.

There is no shortage of things to do while staying at the 13-acre retreat. You can walk around the property (note: there are no roads, so it’s amazing!) or take a drive and explore some of the nearby parks like Pedernal. If hiking isn’t your thing (or your dog’s thing), you can also check out some dog-friendly drinks/beers that run for 20-30 minutes after the bath. My personal favorite is Hawkes Shadow Winery.

If you haven’t visited Lost Maps in Autumn, you’re missing out. The Native Maples area is less than 2 hours from San Antonio and is known as one of the few places in Texas where you can see amazing maples. You have to use the right timing, because the leaves don’t start changing until the temperature drops – usually in mid-October or early November. Texas weather is always unpredictable, but you can check the park’s weather forecast here.

The leaves begin to change color, the lost map becomes the scene of action! It is recommended that you book your website early – sometimes a year in advance! Due to COVID, access is limited and you are advised to reserve tickets (both camping and day tickets) in advance online or by calling the customer service center.

I promise, read it! Not only is Lost Maples a beautiful piece of nature year-round, but there are more than 10 miles of trails to explore, including a loop drive at an elevation of 2,200 feet, and about 50 campsites you can hike to, most of which are a short walk from the restrooms.

If you or your pup don’t like camping, you can definitely take a day trip to Lost Maples. It is certainly enough to drive in the morning, enjoy a walk and go home in the afternoon. However, it’s hard to beat a night or two under the stars, especially when the weather is cold enough to crawl into a sleeping bag with your dog!
