I grew up near Asheville, North Carolina, but for the past nine years, I’ve visited Asheville more often than anywhere else in the state. For two years now, our poodle, Andy, has been there with us. Traveling with dogs is a bit like traveling with children. Both require a little work, but unlike small people, dogs can’t go everywhere with you or stay in every apartment. So just like pets, it’s nice to know before you book your trip that your four-legged family member is welcome too.

Asheville is listed as one of the friendliest cities in the United States, which I think is a true description of the city. Sometimes during my visit I saw as many dogs as people walking the streets. The Aloft Hotel in downtown Asheville, in my opinion, has the honor of being one of the most beloved hotels in the entire state of North Carolina.
Aloft Downtown Asheville runs a popular pet adoption program that allows a rescue dog to live at the hotel until it finds a forever home. That program was so successful that it was piloted at other Aloft hotels across the United States. With your very own “lobby dog” as a hotel greeter, your pet will feel like the top dog or top cat. Joint venture. I also said the cat. The hotel does not care about cats when it comes to their pet policy. Cats are free on property, as are dogs. Cats, as you might expect, are not as visible as dogs in public places, but Andy got a visit from a cat this time. If you are allergic to cats or pets, be sure to discuss this with the front desk before checking in.
I first stayed at the Aloft Downtown Asheville, located on Biltmore Avenue, a few years ago. My daughter, who was five years old at the time, was admitted to the hotel lobby. Every year he insists we go to the Aloft hotel lobby to see who is up for adoption, even though we don’t live on the property. In fact, I found myself living inside the hotel for many years due to the hotel’s great location in the South Slope area of Asheville. Willie and I are craft beer fans and this part of Asheville is where we choose to spend the most time. Aloft Asheville is walking distance from everything in downtown Asheville. The Biltmore area is a quick drive away.
Nightly rates at this Aloft location may appear higher than what you experience at other Aloft hotels in different regions. Because demand for Asheville hotels is generally high, especially downtown. In fact, on peak weekends, a room at the Aloft Downtown Asheville can cost travelers $400 to $500 a night. Marriott rewards members like me for brand loyalty by receiving a small discount on these rates.
Elevation Lofts Hotel Offers Comfortable, Pet Friendly Stays In Downtown Asheville
Many hotels charge a pet fee when traveling with pets, but not Aloft Downtown Asheville. All pets stay free at this property. Parking is also available for a low price of $10 per day on the deck below the hotel.
Not only do pets stay free at Aloft Downtown Asheville, but there are no restrictions in public areas within the hotel. At Aloft Asheville, you can enjoy food and drinks in the WXYZ Lounge, and your dog can be with you. It really makes you feel at home when you stay there. I loved it and I think Andy loved it too.
Aloft Asheville is so pet-friendly that it sometimes hosts “Bow-Wow” type social events for dogs and their owners. It is a pleasure to stay at this hotel as most of the hotel guests share a love for pets.
In July, during my last stay, I learned that a woman at home has a dog like Andy. This made him miss his dog. I also met a couple from New Jersey with a dog named Opie. I told them, “Opie and Andy” was a perfect combination for North Carolina. Fans of Andy Griffith’s television show will certainly understand why.

After checking into the Aloft in downtown Asheville, Andy received a dog care package. She got extra poodle bags, treats, water and food bowls, plus a large dog bed for at least an eight-pound poodle. The reception has a list of places where dogs can roam around the city and have a good time.
