This will make your companion’s journey more comfortable. I always use a waterproof dog bed that is washable and has removable cushions. I also like to pack 2-3 other toys including plushies, squeakers and balls. This will come in handy if your dog needs entertainment in an environment where he or she finds it boring.

Depending on where you’re traveling and what you’re doing, you may need more advice. It is also a good idea to have spare parts on hand in case they are lost or damaged. A standard short leash for walking on the sidewalk, a long leash for playing (if you can’t safely get off the leash) and a reflective strap for night walks.

Not all dogs need these items, but anyone with a long-coated or double-coated dog knows that combs and brushes are essential, even when traveling. If your dog wears a harness, it’s a good idea to protect it from getting wet and uncomfortable. If you want something practical and full coverage, I’ve heard good reviews about Equafleeve. Or you can go for something a little dressier, like I did with this Ellie Zip Up Raincoat. There are reflective buttons, pockets for trash bags or snacks, and a removable hood.
This product is convenient for cleaning wet feet and drying wet fur. When the weather turns bad and your dog gets wet, they feel unwelcome in bars and restaurants and are more likely to make a mess in your home. I always throw a towel in the footwell of my car in case car sickness or weather changes make the cabin dirty.
Accidents happen, so it’s best to be prepared. Pack a laundry bag to dispose of dirty items such as dirty towels, blankets, toys and other items and store them separately from other items. Antibacterial laundry bags are the best choice to kill bacteria and prevent odor. As a last resort, you can use an old bag or a thick pillowcase. I found that my Guppyfriend laundry bag (which I no longer use for laundry!) works great.
