Vacation Dog Gif – Tonight, it’s an early and hopeful Colorado Avalanche as they take on the Chicago Blackhawks in a mostly technical home game. Let’s put it this way – the game will be held in Denver, but if there are more Avs than Hawks fans in attendance remains to be seen.
But, if the team from Colorado plays like the Blues did on Tuesday night, those Hawks fans will go home crying. The last game was without a doubt the Avs’ most complete effort of the season. In the first 40 minutes, they outplayed the opposition, and closed out the last 20, which led to a 5-0 win, and extended their streak to six points in a row. If the Avs can keep up the good vibes, they can climb back into playoff contention. We still have a long way to go, but a good run can do wonders.

The Hawks aren’t too worried about that. They sit atop the division and second in the conference. They lost at home to Winnipeg 5-1 on Tuesday, but are 7-2-1 in their last 10. Patrick Kane leads the NBA in scoring with 36 points in 35 games, but Toews and Versteeg have more points than any of the Avs. Life is like that this season.

On that note, yes, Duchene, Landesgog, and MacKinnon, I’m talking about you. Shooting goals are all good, but something during the game itself would be nice.
Duchene has 1 goal in his last 8 games and is hitless in his last 5 games. He had an assist on Erik Johnson’s goal on Tuesday, but hasn’t seen many points yet. This is par for the course for him – he got 1 goal in 23 starts last year – but it would be nice to see at least one tonight. He should lead the NHL in shots from outside the box.
The captains have been hitless since Nov. 29 against Dallas, 10 games ago. He had two good chances on Tuesday and missed, so he should come close. His luck is bad right now, as evidenced by his 97.5 PDO. At some point, something has to give to Landy.
Dry MacKinnon is more difficult. He is in a terrible state of relegation, he has not scored a goal in 16 games, only 1 goal in the last 21 games. The last time he scored was 2 weeks before Thanksgiving (US version), so it’s been a while. He looked good against the Blues, so with any luck, this cold streak will end tonight. It would be nice if the child got a late Christmas present.
